Financial Aid

  • International students can avail various financial aids from the second semester of their education based on their academic performance and/or verifiable financial distress.
  • There are various departmental and course-specific scholarship programs that international students are eligible for.
  • International students are entitled to BAföG funding in exceptional cases. The local BAföG office can advise him/her about the requirements.
  • The Bavarian universities of Applied Sciences provide support for International students from the 3rd semester onward at Regensburg University of Applied Sciences. To be eligible, students must not be receiving any BaföG funding and they must be in verifiable financial distress and be able to show an academic success.
  • International Students can also apply for Oskar-Karl-Forster Bursary Aid(Money for books) from the 2nd semester onward. A one-off payment of up to €400 for purchasing books or other study aids is provided through an application process.

Admission Process

The Regensburg University of Applied Sciences is a renowned public university in Germany. It is one of the oldest institutes in the nation. It educates around 21,000 students, out of which 1,800 are international students coming from 100 different countries around the world to study in Germany. UR offers a selection of English-taught degree programs and over 200 English-taught individual courses across many study fields.

50 practice-oriented bachelor and master degree programs in engineering, business studies, design, architecture, health, and social studies offer high-quality teaching and research. Some of the courses are admission-free, while some have restricted admissions. Application is required for admissions for courses with restricted admissions and some admission-free courses.

  • The university accepts admissions for its summer and winter semesters.
  • The applications are accepted through an online portal. However, some of the courses may require on-paper applications.
  • An applicant must be proficient in German as most of the courses are taught in German.
  • The documents must be submitted at Hochschulestart.de or directly to the university.
  • For a psychology course, applicants of European origin or with a German School leaving certificate must contact Ms. Wunderlich for admission details. All the other students must follow the regular admission procedure.
  • The prerequisite for admission to a master's program is an aptitude test. The requirements vary depending on the course.
  • 5% of seats are reserved for international applicants at Regensburg University of Applied Sciences.
  • Please also note that nearly every course requires you to complete a pre-study placement of at least 6 or 12 weeks prior to starting your course.

Regensburg University of Applied Sciences International Student Application

Eight faculties offer a wide diversity of study options in the form of practice-oriented Bachelor degree courses in engineering, business studies, the social sciences, and design.

Application portal: The application must be completed through the Online Application portal or Uni-Assist portal. Some of the courses may require the application on paper, too.

German Language Proficiency for International Students

International students need to demonstrate proficiency in the German language. Knowing at least the basics of German has two significant advantages at the Regensburg University –

  1. First of all, as you can understand, the university is located in Germany, and a student will need German for not only studies but also daily activities round the clock.
  2. Considering the academic point of view, neglecting some courses taught in English, all the other programs are taught in German.

Thus, you can see, you must be proficient in German to survive at the University of Regensburg. Language proficiency can be demonstrated through any of the following ways:

  • DSH Examinations – To start studying for a particular course, you need to clear the DSH examination or its equivalent. The level of DSH required depends on the course you are opting for. Most of the courses need DSH-2 exam results, while some of them grant admissions to applicants with DSH-1 exam results. Very few of the courses do not even need a DSH result.
  • B2 level – To apply for a first degree or a master's degree in German, an applicant must have a B2 level in the German language.
  • C1 level – Applications for dentistry and medicine require a language proficiency of C1. Also, one must take note that most of the applicants, irrespective of the course, need to clear the DSH-2 exam, which is equivalent to the C1 level.
  • A2 level – If an applicant wishes to apply for a German preparatory course, he or she must demonstrate a minimum A2 level in German. This can be demonstrated through certificates like DSH, Goethe, DSD, OSD, telc, TestDaF, UNIcert, onset –German.

Apart from dentistry, pharmacy, and medicine applicants, students can also opt for German preparatory courses offered by the university.
