Bits Design School

BITS Design School is a private institute located in the Indian city of Mumbai. It was founded in 2024 by no other than Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (BITS Pilani), and offers an Undergraduate course in various allied design disciplines. The college is approved by UGC, and admission to its degree program is granted to aspiring individuals based on their merit from last year's qualifying exam. A candidate's score in entrance exams like NID-DAT Prelims or UCEED is also considered during the final selection.

BITSDES has collaborated with well-known global design schools including Aalto University of Finland and RMIT University of Australia for curriculum design, annual review, and creating learning/internship opportunities for students. BITS Design School Courses

The BITS Design School offers a full-time and 48-month duration Bachelor of Design (Hons.) course at the UG level. An industry-driven curriculum has been adopted by the college to deliver course content, and to provide a horizon of domains to explore, it comes in different specializations. Throughout the course duration, individuals get to explore domains like material studies, social media communication, visualization and prototyping, AI for design, and designing for the senses. Lastly, they work on an industrial project, or a community project, through masterclasses, and internships.

The campus of BITSDES is located on a 50,000 sq ft. of land, and has every possible facility and services required for the overall growth of students, and help them to bring the life to their designs. Smart Classrooms: The college has built new-gen, and well-ventilated lecture halls on its campus. All the classrooms are resourced with the latest technologies, LCD projectors, comfortable seating arrangements, audio-video devices, and the Internet. Gym: To ensure the strong physical and mental health of students, reduce their stress, boost mood, strengthen memory and concentration, and make them more energetic, an amazing Gym exists on the college campus. All kinds of the latest equipment and cardio machines (treadmills, stationary bikes, elliptical trainers), and weightlifting equipment (dumbbells, barbells, weight machines), are available here.

Computer Center: To make students digitally proficient, and help everyone in their project and research work by making a plethora of digital resources available to them, a big Computer Lab has been built on the campus. The latest computer systems are installed here and each has required design software and applications.

Medical: Enough medical arrangements have been made on the BITDES campus to deal with any kind of health emergency related to students and staff members. They can also avail on-call doctor support as and when needed.

Library: A highly advanced, and spacious Knowledge Center has been developed on campus to enhance everyone’s knowledge with additional learning sources and inculcate much-needed reading habits in students. This space is home to an extensive collection of national and international journals, research papers, newspapers, textbooks, reference books, magazines, previous years' papers, and other study materials.

Shuttle Service: The institute has a fleet of vehicles to ensure easy pick and drop of students from nearby locations. The aim is to save their precious time and allow them to invest in creative work. All the vehicles are driven by trained drivers.

BITS Design School Scholarships

The following scholarships are offered by the Admissions Committee of BITS Design School to make sure every student can access high-quality design education irrespective of their financial or personal backgrounds. Also, a student can apply for 1 scholarship at a time.

Merit & Means Based Scholarships: Under this scholarship, fee waiver up to 90% is offered to eligible students in each academic year. And the aim is to empower young minds with employment-oriented education, and amazing opportunities. To avail the benefits of this scholarship, following conditions must be fulfilled by an individual:

• Student's annual family income must not be more than INR 18,00,000
• Design test scores, academic and extra-curricular achievements, and performance of candidates in portfolio interviews are thoroughly considered during disbursement.

Academic Merit Scholarship: This scholarship is offered to students based on their combined performance in design tests, academics, co-curricular activities, and portfolio interviews. All students are considered by default for the benefits. Here fee waiver of up to 75% is given to students and benefits are awarded separately in each year of the B.Des program.

Diversity Scholarship: This scholarship is offered by the college to develop an inclusive and diverse community of students cum designers and changemakers. Students belonging to third-gender students, underrepresented regions*, and students with physical disabilities, are eligible to avail of the benefits. Here also, a 75% fee is waived and is applicable separately for each year of the course.
