Truman State University International Student Admissions

International students who wish to get admitted to Truman State University must meet all the specific course requirements, submit official academic transcripts, have the required GPA, standardized test scores, recommendations, english language proficiency results, financial documents, medical records and health insurance for one entire academic year.

• The application from the university application portal or Common Application must be completed with all the relevant details and then submitted.
• Official academic transcripts from all the institutes/universities attended with their translations in english.
• Reports from local examinations like ICSE, CBSE, IGCSE etc evaluated by an evaluator agency must be submitted.
• English proficiency test scores are necessary for application consideration. TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo are accepted.
• The Certificate of Financial support must be completed and submitted. Financial proof must be displayed with bank statements and an official letter stating the current balance in account.
• A copy of the passport and immigration documents must be submitted through the student portal.
• Standardized test scores like SAT/ACT are not mandatory but can be provided as supplementary materials.
• A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution should be provided in case of graduate admissions.
• GRE/GMAT scores are required in some graduate courses.
• CV/Resume required in graduate programs.
• Letters of recommendation must be supplied for graduate degrees.
• Statement of purpose is optional.
• Self written essay is optional.
• Interviews are optional.
• Work experience is required in some graduate programs.
• Auditions are required for art-based or music majors.
• Medical records stating the health and overall physical condition of the applicant must be provided. If applicable, there should be mention of diseases or conditions.
• Health insurance is mandatory.

Note- International students should provide additional materials like resume, statement of purpose, awards, portfolios or self written essays to fuel the scholarship consideration. Submission of additional materials will be beneficial for the student since the selection committee takes other achievements into account while selecting deserving candidates for scholarships.

English Proficiency Test Score Requirements

English proficiency test scores must be submitted by international students if they want to apply to Truman State University. Undergraduate and graduate English proficiency testing requirements are the same. The following tests are accepted and their minimum required scores are given along with them.

Note- Students who did not satisfy the english proficiency test requirements can apply as a conditional student. As a conditional attendee, they will have to complete a level 9 certificate in English language at the language company on the Truman campus or an approved ESL program.

US Visa requirements for international students

International students who wish to study in the USA at Truman State University should apply for a student visa. To obtain a student visa, a candidate will have to submit all the required materials including degrees, transcripts, english proficiency requirements and financial information for generation of -20 form from the university.

To get an i-20 form, a student needs to provide bank statements stating financial support and an official letter declaring financial stability. Copy of a valid passport is also needed. Once the university issues the i-20 form or DS-2019 form (for J-1 students), the candidate can proceed with the F-1 or J-1 student visa application and payment of the SEVIS fee which is 350 USD. It is required to contact the US embassy or consulate in the applicant’s home country so the documents needed to bring to the visa interview can be ensured.

The following documents should be brought to the visa interview:

• Passport which will be valid for at least 6 months beyond the student’s stay period in the USA.
• Certificate of eligibility in the form of I-20 form or form DS-2019.
• Acceptance letter from Truman State University
• Form DS- 7002 (for J-1 applicants only)
• SEVIS fee receipt.
• DS-160 application confirmation page with barcode and application ID number.
• MRV fee payment confirmation receipt.
• J-1 applicants should bring current employment/job offer letters.
• Printed copy of visa interview appointment letter
• Photographs in the requested format.
• Financial proof verifying the presence of enough funds for covering tuition cost in the US.
• Scholarship or sponsorship letter (if applicable).
• Transcripts, diplomas, degrees etc from all the institutions previously attended.
• Standardized test scores or english proficiency test score results.
• Health examination form.

After the documents have been submitted and the interview is completed, the student will be notified by the embassy if any additional steps are required. After clearing the interview and getting accepted for a student visa successfully, a stamp will be issued on the passport which will act as a visa to the US.
