Hamline University International Student Admissions

International students who are seeking admission into Hamline University must be prepared with academic transcripts, score reports, english proficiency test results, standardized test scores, financial certification, recommendations, medical details and health insurance for one entire academic year. An international applicant should go through the following information.

• Application portal- For undergraduate students- Hamline Application or Common Application. For graduate students- Graduate online application.
• Application fee- 0 USD for undergraduate applicants, 100 USD for graduate applicants (non refundable).

Admission Requirements for International Students

The following admission documents are required:

• The student application must be filled in and completed online and then submitted.
• Official certified copies of transcripts from previous institutions including high school and/or colleges/universities attended. They must be translated into English by an official public translator.
• High school diploma or certificate of graduation from high school must be submitted. In case of graduate admissions, a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required.
• Reports from local/regional/national level higher secondary examinations with the scores evaluated by an official evaluator agency.
• A GPA above 3.0 (83-86%), preferably though it depends from program to program.
• English proficiency test scores should be submitted. TOEFL, IELTS and ELS are accepted by the college.
• At least one letter of recommendation, and more than one in case of graduate programs from guidance counselors or academic teachers regarding academic records and leadership skills.
• A copy of official passport and immigration documents.
• Evidence of financial support should be provided. They should be official and not more than 3 months old.
• Medical records stating the candidate’s physical health with mention of any diseases or conditions and immunization forms is required.
• Health insurance is compulsory.
• A self written essay regarding personal achievements and future goals is required for graduate admissions.
• A CV/Resume is required in a few graduate programs.
• A personal statement or statement of purpose can be in the application checklist of some graduate programs.
• An interview is optional.
• Work experience is optional.
• Standardized test scores like ACT/ SAT Scores can be provided additionally or in place of english proficiency test scores. GRE/GMAT is optional in case of graduate admissions.

For admission evaluations, the admission committee takes into account the school coursework taken by the applicant. The college preparatory courses recommended for international admissions are noted below.

• English- Four years
• Mathematics- Three years
• Laboratory Science- 3 years
• Social Science- 3 years

English Language Proficiency Test Scores

International students must meet the English proficiency test score requirements for getting admission into Hamline University. There are different requirements for undergraduate and graduate English proficiency requirements. The names of the tests accepted and their minimum scores are summed up below.

Note- Conditional admission is also offered to students who have cleared all the academic requirements but did not receive the minimum scores in English proficiency tests. One of the university’s partner ESL programs, the Global Language Institute or the ELS Language Centre will get the student enrolled along with Hamline College. The candidate can get the necessary linguistic knowledge to proceed with the degree as soon as they are ready.

US Visa Process for International Students

To get admitted to Hamline University, an international candidate will have to obtain a student visa for the USA. Once they have been accepted to the university, they will receive an i-20 or DS 2019 and acceptance letter. The i-20 or DS-2019 form should be checked properly and then signed by the student. For attending a visa interview, the following documents are required:

• Student acceptance at a SEVP approved school.
• The non refundable visa application fee.
• Passport valid beyond 6 months of the student’s stay period in the US.
• Non-immigrant visa application, DS- 160 form confirmation page and barcode.
• Certificate of eligibility for nonimmigrant student status.
• Intent on studying in the US.
• Financial information verifying availability of funds.
• Transcripts and diplomas from previous institutes.
• Intent of departure from the US upon completion of course.

Once the interview has been cleared and documents have been submitted, the consular representative will let the student know if any additional steps are required. After that, if the visa has been approved the visa stamp should be checked for accuracy.
