About School of Forensic Science, National Forensic Sciences University

Gujarat Forensic Science University is a State University established in 2008 in Gandhinagar. GFSU is recognized by UGC and accredited ‘A’ grade by NAAC team. Being the world’s first university dedicated to forensic sciences, it has a conglomerate of 4 institutions, namely, Institute of Forensic Science, Institute Research & Development, Institute of Behavioural Science, and Institute of Management and Technology.

Institute of Forensic Science was established in 2008 along with the University. It is an institution under GFSU solely designated to create expertise in forensic sciences for criminal investigation. Apart from the traditional Forensics, it also focuses on Cyber Forensic to tackle the increasing Cyber Crimes.

IFS aims to provide a speedy and accurate justice delivery system to citizens. A safe society and a comprehensive security are the need of the hour, which is on the agenda of the Institution. IFS also looks into traditional fingerprinting, DNA analysis, questioned documents, ballistics, analytical chemistry, Serology, Explosives, Toxicology, etc.

The Institute of Forensic Science currently offers postgraduate level academic programs M.Sc/ M.Tech/ PG Diploma, short term e-courses and certificate courses. Graduates securing 55% in relevant discipline are eligible to apply for PG programs.

M.Tech Admission will be based on GATE. Admission will be on merit based on the Entrance Exam conducted by Gujarat Forensic Sciences University.

Any graduate or working professional in the relevant field can apply for e - courses and certificate courses.

IFS-GFSU Courses Offered

IFS-GFSU offers courses in M.Sc., M. Tech., PG Diploma, and Certificate Courses. Course Fee ranges from ₹20,000 to ₹65,000. Duration for full-time courses is 2 years, and that of Diploma and Certificate Courses is 1 year, 6 months, or 3 months depending upon the Courses.

PG Diploma	Subject: Fingerprint Science, Forensic Toxicology Duration: 1 Year Eligibility: Bachelors’ Degree in any field of Science having relevant subject with minimum 50% aggregate marks.
Certificate Courses	Subjects: Forensic Journalism, Crime Scene Photography Duration: 6 months/3 months Eligibility: Bachelors’ degree in any stream from a recognized University with aminimum 50% aggregate marks.
