About Jogamaya Devi college

Jogamaya Devi College, one of the oldest women’s colleges in Eastern India, was founded in 1932 by Dr. Shyamaprasad Mukgerjee to fight the scarcity of education centers for women in Kolkata. It has received the prestigious status of “Centre of Excellence in Women’s Education”. The college is affiliated with the University of Calcutta and it is also accredited grade ‘B’ college by the NAAC. It offers UG courses with both general and honors subjects, it also offers PG courses in Bengali and Botany. The college is also approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and it also receives fundings from the Government of India through the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA).

Jogamaya Devi College Admission

The whole admission process for all the courses offered is merit-based. Any candidate who fulfills the minimum eligibility criteria can take part in the admission process. Admission to all the courses is based on the marks scored by the applicant in the 10+2 level examination.

Candidates can follow the below-mentioned steps to apply for admission to Jogamaya Devi College.

The admission process is online. Students have to apply through the college website
Candidates are advised to fill the application form with special attention and upload all the relevant documents, scanned photographs, and signatures in the portal.
After this, candidates should pay the prescribed application fee to complete the application process. The application fee is non-refundable.
After online verification of the data & documents furnished by the applicants, the college will publish a merit list on the college website. The merit list will be prepared by following the norms proposed by the College Authority. In case data entered by the candidate does not match with the uploaded documents, the application of the candidate will be rejected.
Candidates who appear in the merit list published by the college will be given admission orders online, they will have to pay admission fees either via online mode or via offline mode through a bank challan generated from the admission portal. After successful payment of fees, upload the admission fee receipt on the college’s admission portal within the stipulated time period mentioned in the admission order.
If the candidate fails to upload the receipt within the stipulated time, the candidature of the candidate will be canceled.
The verification of all the documents and data furnished by the candidate in the form submitted will be done only on the date of commencement of classes. If the candidate fails to produce proper documents, the admission will be canceled.

Jogamaya Devi College Scholarships

Jogamaya Devi College offers various scholarship programs to eligible and meritorious candidates based on several socio-economic and academic criteria. Some of the scholarship schemes are discussed below.

Meritorious students who come from a humble financial background are awarded a Full-free ship or Half-free ship. In the case of the full-free ship, the student won’t require to pay any fee to the college. The scholarship is awarded based on three parameters- Attendance percentage, previous semester marks, and financial background.
West Bengal government awards Merit cum Means scholarship to the meritorious candidates.
Students belonging to the minority groups are also eligible to apply for the West Bengal Minorities Development & Finance Corporation - Scholarship and Backward Classes Welfare for Post-Matric Scholarship by the Government of West Bengal.
Differently-abled students can apply for the National Scholarship for persons with disabilities.

Library: The College has one Central Library and 19 Seminar Libraries for respective departments. The Central Library offers an adequately spacious and well-lighted reading room facility for library users. It has a rich collection of more than 60000 volumes of text and reference books and many important journals, newspapers and magazines are also subscribed to meet the reference services needed.
Laboratories: The college has laboratories with well-equipped research rooms.
Canteen: There is an affordable canteen located inside the campus which caters to the needs of students and staff.
Sports: The college encourages its students to take part in different sports competitions. It also organizes its sports meet every year.
