About Calcutta School of Tropical Medicine - [CSTM]

Calcutta School of Tropical Medicine is a government institute that was established in 1914 by Leonard Rogers situated in Kolkata, West Bengal. The institute is affiliated with the West Bengal University of Health Science (WBUHS), Kolkata and approved by the Medical Council of India (MCI). It is one of the seven such Institutions dedicated to research, care and cure of tropical diseases.

Calcutta School of Tropical Medicine is the only institution in India engaged exclusively in research, Post-graduate education and healthcare for tropical diseases. The admission process is purely based on merit and eligibility criteria. The institute offers many facilities like a canteen, library, medical assistance and others.

CSTM Admission 2024

Admission is purely based on merit-based in all the programmes by the students in the last qualifying exam. Students are required to obtain the application form from the college premises. The process is completely offline. However, admission for MSc is processed through JENPAS PG examination (West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board).

How to Apply for Admission at CSTM?

The steps and procedures to apply for any of the courses mentioned above are given below.

The college has an offline method of the admission process.
Candidates who are interested in the courses can obtain the application form from the college itself.
Candidates must fill the form manually and submit the form with the relevant document to the college.
Selected candidates’ names will be added in the merit list which is available on the college website.
The candidates then need to pay the relevant fees and confirm their seats.

CSTM Placements

There is no such placement committee in the college. However, the Indian government provides on the spot jobs for a person who has done either MBBS or higher education like MD/MS. Various reputed hospitals like Fortis, Landmark and Tata medical hospitals also hire the best applicants with a salary package of around 2 lakhs per month.

College does provide internships opportunities to the students in its hospital and also gives stipends to the students as per government regulation.

Hospitals and Research centres from all over the country visit and recruit students on good salaries. One can get placement in the institute's hospital as well.

CSTM Scholarships

Calcutta School of Tropical Medicine does not provide any specific scholarships to the students. However, the scholarship can be availed under the National Scholarship Portal of the Central Government for financial assistance. CSTM Facilities

Calcutta School of Tropical Medicine campus is divided into 3 segments Academic Wing, Research Wing, Indoor and Outdoor Patient Wing. The college has its speciality hospital Carmichael Hospital for Tropical Diseases which is the hospital part of the prestigious and heritage institution. Since then, it is best known for treating tropical diseases for the patients of the whole of Eastern India. Some of the other facilities offered by the college are as follows:

Library: The Library houses a collection of books from the Asiatic Society. Currently, there are over 65,000 books, Journals, Records and Gazetteers stocked in the Library.
Canteen: On campus, the canteen provides a healthy and tasty meal for students at decent prices.
Auditorium: The college also provides an auditorium for workshops, seminars and other celebrations.
Blood Bank: The college has also established the first Cord Blood Bank becoming a part of research in futuristic medicine.

CSTM Faculty

Calcutta School of Tropical Medicine has dedicated faculties for all the streams and specializations. The college has 90+ faculty members focused on each subject including administrative members which tends to increase based on the college recruitment.
