CDL Government Polytechnic is an institute affiliated to H.S.B.T.E, Panchkula. It was established during the year 2002 and offers courses like Computer Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. Admission of a student to the institute is done on the basis of the marks obtained by him/her in Secondary School or 10+2.

Admission in CDL Government Polytechnic is done on the basis of the merit of the applicants.

Candidates who are applying for the various Diploma courses offered by CDL Government Polytechnic through the lateral entry scheme should fulfill all the other conditions. Their admission shall be based on the merit in their entrance examination which is DET(L). Thereafter the candidates will be selected and the selected ones will have to participate in an Online Off-campus Counselling organized by NIC. They will have to pay a fee of Rs.500, which is mandatory, or otherwise they would not be allowed to attend the counselling session.

• The first and the foremost step in the admission process of CDL Government Polytechnic is to download the application form, which is available on their official website. 
• Some of the fields in the application form include personal details of the candidate, address, qualifications, course applying for etc.
•  They then have to email this form along with some of the documents mentioned in the form to an email id, which is given in the application form.
• The students are selected on the basis of their merit in class 10th. 
• The selected students will have to participate in an Online Off-Campus counselling undertaken by National Informatics Centre for the final seat allotment. 
• To appear in this counselling session the candidates have to pay a fee of Rs. 500. This step is mandatory for the candidates, failing in which they would not be entertained for counselling.

CDL Government Polytechnic aims to provide students with theoretical and practical knowledge at the same time and for accomplishing this task the institute has many laboratories, library and industrial visits which help in the overall development of the students.

• Library present at the institute is home to more than sixteen thousand books. It is well conditioned and has a seating capacity of 128 students. The library is open from eight in the morning to eight at night. This helps the students to study till late night during their exam period. All the previous year question papers are provided to the students. The library also stores newspapers, magazines for students and staff to keep them updated with the latest news.
• There are five computer labs which are well equipped with 100 computers. All the labs have UPS, industry supported software and Multi Functional Printers.
• To impart practical knowledge to students there is a Language Lab, Project Lab, Communication Lab, Chemistry Lab, Thermodynamics Lab, Survey Lab, Physics Lab, Concrete Technology Lab, Theory Of Machine Lab, Highway Engineering Lab and many more.
