The American College, an autonomous institute and established in 1881, is located in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. The college is now affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University. The American College Admission
Candidates must have passed the HS exam, Government of Tamil Nadu, ICS exam, or exam conducted by State Government with not less than 5 subjects of which English is compulsory for admission to UG Programs.
MBA candidates need to have 50% in graduation but for SC/ST a minimum of 45% is required. Valid management aptitude test (CAT/MAT/TANCET/CONSORTIUM) score is required. For MCA Bachelor’s degree of 3 years in BCA, B.Sc with Mathematics at +2 level or B.Sc degree in computer science /IT/Applied science/ Electronics/ Statics/ Physics/ Chemistry/Mathematics or any degree with PGDCA or BE/B. Tech, B.Com, CA.
How to Apply?
The application process is through online and offline mode and different entries for different programs. An entrance test followed by an interview.
There is no entrance test for PG Tamil, Economics, Botany, Zoology; M.Phil Admission is based on academic performance and entrance test. The application form generally uploads on the college website a day before the entrance test.

On-campus and Off-campus recruitment drives are organized by The Placement Cell and give them the opportunity in leading companies, MNCs, Banks, and Educational Institutions.
The department of MCA offers the best placement opportunity for students in the small, medium, and large-scale IT firms in and around Chennai and Bangalore.
The department of MBA offers placement for its students in top-notch business organizations. Intensive programs on “Business Awareness and Aptitude and pre-placement” are conducted for the final year students. More than 90% of the students are being placed in each year.
The American College Facility
The American College offers great infrastructure and various facilities such as hostels, libraries, stadiums, computer centers, halls, canteen, sports and games, gymnasium.
- Hostel: The college provides a good living room outside the classroom with an attached bathroom to the students. The college has four men’s hostels and one women’s hostel. Separate application forms are available with the Bursar’s office for admission to hostels.
- Sports and Games: There is a large playing area with a football and a hockey ground, a cricket pitch, 3 tennis courts, floodlit basketball, and volleyball courts. The maximum number of university blues is produced by the college in the following sports and games: Athletics, Hockey, Football, Volley Ball, Cricket, Tennis, Table Tennis, Shuttle Cock, Kho Kho, etc. The college also encourages students to play during their free time.
- Indoor stadium and Gymnasium: There is a modern gymnasium in the college with various facilities. William Tracy Indoor stadium (funded by UGC) is a multipurpose sports stadium that has a seating capacity of more than 200 spectators and provides good play space for many sports like basketball, volleyball, and badminton. Students can purchase a gym-card with a small fee to access the gymnasium.
- Library: The library named The Daniel Poor Memorial Library is the old and famous public library in Madurai that has open access system with housing about 1,60,000 books. It subscribes to 700 different journals with a wide range of subjects. There is also an internet facility at the library for the student. It is kept open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on all working days. A maximum of 10 books can be withdrawn by the students at a time. Every department in the college has its specialized library. Access for e-resources is also available in the library. There is free internet café for the exclusive use of students in the library.
- Computer center: The college has a large computer center only for MCA students. The center is equipped with a great range of software with the latest hardware configuration on various platforms. There is also high-speed internet connectivity in the center. Students have the opportunity to learn computing skills on their own. The Centre is open between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on all working days.
