About Government Degree College
Government Degree College, Baramulla was started as an English Medium school in 1905. Gradually, it was upgraded to include High school, Intermediate college and finally a degree college in the year 1943.
Earlier the college was affiliated to Punjab University Lahore. However, in 1963 the government of Jammu & Kashmir took over the college and presently the college is affiliated to the University of Kashmir. It is located at 51 Kms from Srinagar, NH 1A, Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir-193103.
The Institute has also been awarded an A++ grade by NAAC.
It offers Graduate courses in the field of Science, Business Studies and Humanities. Post-graduate courses in Mathematics and Masters in Computer Applications are also available.
Application mode for the college is both online and offline and the basic admission criteria to the Institute is Merit-Based.

Selection Criteria:
Admission to Baramulla college, Jammu and Kashmir is based on certain minimum eligibility criteria and entrance test. Few courses are specifically for boys’ students.

Government Degree College, Baramulla, Jammu & Kashmir: Scholarship
The scholarship at the college is of two types:
- Financial assistance provided by the government- Students from backward classes, physically challenged students, students from financially weak background are provided with the scholarships by the government. These scholarships are dispersed according to the guidelines of the state government and Ministry of social justice from time to time.
- Student Aid Fund- College maintains its own fund for helping the students from financially weaker sections of the society. Monetary assistance is provided for purchasing of books, paying admission fees, school uniform etc.
Government Degree College, Baramulla, Jammu & Kashmir: Facilities
Library- College has in total 46000 text books and 12000 reference books. Library facilities are available for both students and staff at the college. Management of the library is done by a chief librarian, one assistant, one library bearer and few other employees.
Career Counselling cell- This cell of the college organises various workshops and events to guide students. Professors and persons of repute are called to host the events and provide guidance to students. In association with Directorate of Employment Baramulla, orientation programmes are also organised for the students.
Internet Browsing Centre- Access to the internet is provided to the students in this centre. A student can browse for 3 hours in a week but maximum one hour per day. Internet facility is available only during college hours.
Women Consultancy Cell- This cell has been set up with the objective of educating women and men in the society about rights and status of women in a society, aware women about facilities and programmes launched by the government for their well-being.
Sports- College has been taking part in various national and international level championships and competitions. Recently students took part in the National championship held at Shimla Himachal Pradesh and Gulmarg Kashmir. Students also took part in various other sports competitions like Cricket, Yoga, Kho-Kho, Football, Volleyball, Kabaddi, Athletic, Aquatic throw-ball, Chess etc.
