About Government Polytechnic - [GPN]

Established in 1914, the Government Polytechnic, Nagpur (GP Nagpur) is one of the oldest technical institutes in Central India. The college offers 12 diploma programs. The admission to the college is based on merit.

Started with a mere total of 16 students, GPN today hosts over 2000 students admitted in twelve diploma programs. The total number of students placed in the 2018-19 placement season was 82. Some of the top recruiting companies at GPN are CEAT, Tata Motors, and Ashok Leyland.

Government Polytechnic Nagpur Awards

Nagpur’s Government Polytechnic was awarded the 1996 ISTE Monjee award for overall best performance and the best polytechnic award of Government of Maharashtra in the year 1997. The institute was also awarded the World Bank assisted Technical Education Quality Improvement Program (TEQIP) through which it received INR 2.55 crores.

Government Polytechnic Nagpur Courses

The institute offers 12 diploma programs offered in two shifts. All twelve courses are offered in the first shift and three courses are offered in the second shift. The details of the courses are given below:

Government Polytechnic Nagpur Admission

The admission process is conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Maharashtra. To acquire admission to any of its diploma courses, the candidate should fulfil the minimum eligibility of completing the senior secondary examination or its equivalent.

Government Polytechnic Nagpur Facilities

The institute offers many facilities to its students, helping them to gain both academic and industry knowledge. Here is a list of facilities offered by the institute-

Library: There are a total of 40,000 books and 2000 reference books on engineering/ technology housed at the institute’s library. The library also has a subscription of 25 technical magazines. It has a robust reading space available for the students with timing from 9.30 AM to 5.45 PM for its members.
Gymkhana: For the overall development of students and inculcate sportsmanship, the institute offers its students with a gymkhana. It conducts various events and programs throughout the years. The annual gymkhana fees per student are INR 200.
Hostel: The institute has a hostel for their male and female students. The capacity of boys and girls hostels are 180 and 54 respectively. The facilities available at the hostel include drinking water, TV room, gymkhana, clean bathroom, 24x7 security, medical officer, newspaper, mess, sports, complaint/ suggestion box, and newspapers.
Women’s Wing: There is a separate women’s wing for all the female students of GPN. This wing aims to motivate female students, organize events/ programs for their overall personality development, provide female students self-defence and entrepreneurship engagements, and organize regular health camps for check-ups.

There are a total of 107 working faculty members at GPN. Out of these, the first shift includes 92 faculty members in 23 academic departments and 15 faculty members in 9 academic departments for the second shift. Each department is headed by the head of the department.
