About University of Madras

University of Madras or Madras University is a public state university and one of the oldest in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The university is recognized by the UGC as one of the centres for "potential for excellence" in the country. Madras University is ranked 50th among top universities in India by NIRF 2023. The university has six campuses in Chepauk, Mariana, Guindy, Taramani, Maduravoyal, and Chetpet. Madras University offers more than 230 courses under 87 academic departments. ​Madras University provides internship and placement opportunities for all students in their final year. The university has a training and placement cell that organises on-campus and off-campus placement drives. Madras University Scholarships 

  • The Madras University provides “National Overseas Scholarships” for students with disabilities. There are 20 scholarships (6 are reserved for women students) awarded to those students who have passed master’s degree examination with at least 55% marks and whose family income does not exceed 6 lakh per annum.
