About Bharathi Women's College - [BWC]

Bharathi Women’s College was established in 1964 and is very famous for its academic standing and leadership building for women. The college is affiliated to University of Madras, Chennai and has been re-accredited Grade B by NAAC. The college is named after a famous Tamil poet Subramanian Bharathi.

At present, the college offers 13 UG courses, 13 PG courses, 5 M.Phil and 6 PhD research programmes. Located in a fairly large campus of 8 Acres, the college is nested in the crowded Gorgeous George Town, the actual Chennai. The college offers a lot of facilities both in academics and sports.

In a span of more than 50 years, Bharathi Women’s College has grown almost 100 fold and its alumni continue to serve in various fields.

BWC Chennai Admission

The college offers admission only to women candidates in various UG and PG courses. Apart from these, PhD and M.Phil degree is also offered by the college. The candidates should not have exceeded the age of 24 to get admission into the college.

The candidates who want to opt for UG courses should have completed their 10+2 and for PG courses, they must have a Bachelor’s degree from any recognized board or University. Admissions are granted on the basis of marks scored by the candidates in the qualifying examinations, based on which the college releases a merit list.

How to Apply?

Admission and Application process is done through the Madras University Counselling.
The candidates have to apply for it by filling a duly filled form which can be collected from the University campus or downloaded from the official website.
Candidates have to pay an application fee of 300 INR which they can either pay through Demand Draft drawn in favour of “The Registrar, University of Madras, Chepauk, Chennai 600005”or at the University Counter while purchasing the form.
If the students are selected on the basis of rank list, they are called for counseling and admissions are finalized once they verify their original documents and pay the fees.

The college provides all the basic facilities to its students in its campus only. The infrastructure of the campus is quite well built with facilities like:

Library: The College has both a digital and general library which is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The library has over 55,217 books, 69 journals and 512 back volumes for references. The digital library on the other hand has access to 31,35,000 e-books and 6,000 e-journals. The students and faculty can benefit from the facility of the library free of cost.
Hostel: The College provides accommodation for students inside the college campus. Since the hostel has limited capacity, students residing far away from the college or outstation students are given preference in hostel admission.
Sports facilities: The College offers various opportunities to students who aspire to shine in sports. The college has one Basketball concrete court, Ball badminton, Kabaddi, Volleyball, Kho-Kho courts, Football and Hockey courts. Practice sessions are arranged for sports competitions. The students have achieved various awards at competitions conducted by private colleges.
Service Wings: The college students are a part of various organizations such as NCC, NSS, YRC, RCC, etc. which gives them access to excel at all levels. The students have won various awards and distinctions too. A lot of vents are conducted by these societies.
