About Gujarat Maritime University - [GMU]

Gujarat Maritime University, shortly known as GMU, was established in 2017. The University was started by the Gujarat Maritime Board Education Trust, under the Gujarat Private Universities Act of 2009. The University currently operates in the transitory campus of Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) till a permanent campus of its own is established. It is located in the capital of Gujarat, Gandhinagar, in a place called Koba. The college currently offers 3 postgraduate programs. The courses offered by the university are LLM in 2 specializations, EDP in 2 specializations and MBA in Maritime Management as well. Applications for all courses are to be done online. Students are admitted to GMU based on the marks scored in the relevant qualifying exams and entrance tests.

Gujarat Maritime University, under its Centre of Executive Education, had offered its first Executive Development Programme – “Insights in Maritime, Ports and Logistics- A Global Perspective" between March 1-17, 2021. The program was offered in collaboration with Erasmus UPT and STC International based out of the Netherlands. In addition to this, GMU has proposed several upcoming schools – School of Maritime Technology and School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, and centres – Centre of Continuing Education (offers PhDs in various maritime-related subjects) and Centre of Faculty Development (offers short term courses for faculty across the country).

Gujarat Maritime University Admission

Admissions for all LLM courses in GMU are done based on the scores of the Common Law Admission Test and the basis of merit for all diploma courses (EDP). All candidates should meet the eligibility criteria and guidelines specified below before attempting the CLAT. MBA admission is done under State Quota seats (50%), administered by the Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC) and All-India Seats (50%).

Eligibility Criteria for CLAT:

Candidates do not have any age limit or restrictions to the number of times to attempt CLAT.
Should have a degree from any law university or related with an aggregate score of 50% for candidates from the general/ PWD/ NRI/ PIO/ OCI and a minimum of 45% for candidates belonging to the SC/ ST categories.
Candidates who haven’t received their degrees but are appearing for the qualifying exam in the upcoming months should submit a hardcopy of proof of their passing in the respective National Law Universities at the time of admission.
Specially abled candidates have to choose to either bring their scribe or to request one from the CLAT office.

How to Apply?

To be able to apply, candidates first have to clear the Common Law Admissions Test. Applications for CLAT are available on the official page of the Consortium of NLUs.
After CLAT results are out, the candidate will have to fill in the form available on the official website of GMU to apply.
Upon filling applications, applicants will have to pay an application fee of INR 1000 (general category), INR 500 (SC/ ST) and INR 10000 (NRI) for the LLM course. Application fee for the Executive Diploma Program is INR 4000 (general category), INR 2000 (SC/ ST/ Gujarat Domicile) and INR 10000 (NRI) and the Application fee for the MBA program is INR 1000 (general category) and INR 500 (SC/ ST/ EWS).
Payment can be done through NEFT, Net Banking, Credit, or Debit Cards.
After the selection is done, students will be notified through the publication of Online Merit and verification of documents is done.
For candidates applying under Foreign Nationals Category are not required to appear for CLAT but the minimum criteria would apply.
Candidates applying for MBA will be selected basis on the valid marks obtained in CAT/ XAT/ MAT/ CMAT/ GMAT followed by GD and PI.

Library: The college has a 24/7 library equipped with a huge collection of over 10,000 books from the maritime and trade sectors alone. The library also has several computers with access to a wide range of online journals and research papers.
Computer Labs: GMU has over 20 computers all with the latest machine configurations and technology. Students have access to cutting edge software and databases to facilitate their research and studies.
Classrooms: GMU has well-maintained classrooms furnished with new and modern furniture, smartboards and multimedia equipment. It also has a fully equipped conference room and moot courts.
Hostels: The university has in campus boarding facilities for both boys and girls. The rooms are well furnished and come with high-speed internet facilities and other basic amenities.

Ques. Does Gujarat Maritime University offer any reservations?

Ans. GMU does offer reservations. It has a reservation quota of 30% for females, 5% of seats for Persons with Disability (PWD) and 25% for candidates of the Gujarat Domicile on All India seats. Out of the 25%, 15% is for candidates belonging to the SC community, 8% for students from the ST community, 10% for NRIs and 10% for foreign nationals.
