St. Charles College of Education (SCCE) from the past 50 years has been imparting its education in Thirunagar, Madurai. The college is run by the prestigious congregation of sisters of St. Charles Borromeo who have devoted their service to help the underprivileged by educating them. It is a NAAC-‘B’ accredited and affiliated to Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University (TNTEU), Chennai. The college has also Participated in Swachta Ranking on 2017-18 conducted by the MHRD was the one among the two institutions in Madurai where the inspection was held.

SCCE campus is spread over 13 acres with lush green and pristine environment setting pleasant scenery for learning students. The college also hosts around 3 model schools within its campus. Facilities like Computer lab, Science Labs, Language & Psychology Lab, Audio Visual Hall, Indoor Play Area, Canteen, Library etc. are also present in the college campus.

SCCE offers Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) which is a 2-year programme approved by NCTE and affiliated by TNTEU, Chennai.

About B.Ed.

The B.Ed. curriculum is designed to integrate the study of subject knowledge, human development, pedagogical knowledge and communication skills. The courses under each of these curricular areas are based on a close reading of original writings, seminar/ term paper presentations and continuous engagement with the field.

Transaction of the courses is done using a variety of approaches, such as case studies, discussions on reflective journals, observations of children, and interactions with the community in multiple socio-cultural environments. Information and Communication Technology (ICT), gender, yoga education, and disability/inclusive education form an integral part of the B.Ed. curriculum. The programme consists of a theory component and a practicum component.

St. Charles College of Education Placements

Teaching Practice and other Practical Teaching practice as part of the training programme is arranged in two phases:

• Weekly Teaching (Block/Preliminary Teaching): This is arranged either in St. Charles Hr.Sec.School Madurai or other high or Hr.Sec.Schools by the Principal.
• Intensive Teaching: Every student must undergo 16weeks of continuous teaching practice in a High School or Hr.Sec.School as directed by the College.
