TIFR Courses

The Tata Institute of Fundamental Research is the institute for advanced research in fundamental sciences. TIFR runs a graduate program leading to the award of a Ph.D., an integrated M.Sc. degree in certain subjects.

The Graduate program at TIFR is classified into the following subjects- Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer & Systems Sciences, Mathematics (including Communications and Applied Probability) and Science Education. The following programs are conducted at the Mumbai campus and various National Centres of TIFR.

Computer & Systems Sciences (including Communications and Applied Probability)	Ph.D.	Candidate must have B.Tech./ B.E./ M.Tech/M.E/M.C.A/M.Sc. or equivalent degree in Computer Science/ Electronics and Communications Engineering/ E.E or related branches.
	Integrated M.Sc Ph.D.	Exceptionally well-qualified students with a three-year degree in related subjects may be considered for I-Ph.D.

TIFR Admissions

Candidates seeking admission in the institute must meet the basic eligibility criteria as mentioned above in the table for each research program. Eligible candidates can apply online by visiting the official website of the Insitute. Students can also send an offline form with relevant documents to “Graduate School Admissions – 2019, Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, TIFR, V.N. Purav Marg, Mankhurd, Mumbai – 400088.”

TIFR Entrance Exam

An online entrance test is conducted at the nationwide centre is conducted for final admission by TIFR Mumbai. The test will be followed by an interview of short-listed candidates on the basis of performance in the entrance test.

Candidates having a valid score in GATE in relevant discipline will be exempted from TIFR Entrance Exam. In case, a student submits the GATE score and appears for the entrance exam as well, the better of the two performances will be considered.

TIFR Mumbai Fellowship

The students studying in research programs will receive the following fellowship by the Institute:

Ph.D. scholars will receive a monthly fellowship of INR 25,000
Students studying in Integrated Ph.D. (I-Ph.D.) will be given an amount of INR 16,000 in the first year. However, at the end of the 1^st year, it will be enhanced to INR 25,000 upon satisfactory performance. This will be further raised to INR 28,000 after the student registers himself/ herself for Ph.D.

TIFR Mumbai Facilities

Mentioned below are some of the facilities offered by the research institute to the students:

Hostel: Accommodation is provided only for Ph.D. and I-PhD students at a nominal cost.
Library: The library of TIFR has a huge collection of 65,000 books, 4,000 journals, and 650 foreign journals
Health Care: There is a medical center for the health needs of members. It provides good treatment to Institute members, official visitors, research fellow, & research scholars.
