National Institute of Design - [NID]

Ans. Yes, NID Vijayawada is a government institution and is also recognized as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India. It is an autonomous multi-disciplinary design institute established under the aegis of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. 

Ans. NID Vijayawada offers only one course, i.e. Bachelor of Design (B.Des) at the undergraduate level for a duration of 4 years. The institute offers three specializations for B.Des namely Industrial Design, Communication Design, and Textile & Apparel Design.

Ans. The main campus of NID Vijayawada is being built on a 50-acre site in Amravati. Currently, the institute is operating from its transit campus at Acharya Nagarjuna University.

Ans. NID Vijayawada offers 75 seats in total for admission to its B.Des program. NID Vijayawada offers B.Des in three specializations namely Industrial Design, Communication Design, and Textile & Apparel Design. Thus, the institute offers 25 seats each for the three specializations.

Ans. Yes, NID Vijayawada conducts its own entrance exam namely NID DAT. NID Design Aptitude Test (DAT) is an offline exam, which is a pen-and-paper test, of three hours. The mode of language is English, the questions are from texts and visuals.

Ans. No, NID Vijayawada currently doesn’t offer admission to overseas candidates. Currently, only NID Ahmedabad, NID Bhopal, and NID Kurukshetra offer admission to foreign candidates. 

Ans. Yes, NID Vijayawada offers hostel accommodation for both boys and girls with an adjoining mess facility. The hostel at the new campus of NID Vijaywada can accommodate up to 292 students with a capacity of 208 rooms.

Ans. Both the Vijayawada and Kurukshetra campuses of NID are equally good. The visiting faculties are almost identical and both campuses are evolving. NID Kurukshetra has a National Capital Region and is close to Panipat which is a blessing for textile students. whereas NID Vijayawada is the first NID to be set up in accordance with the National Design Policy after NID Ahmedabad. Thus, the choice totally depends on the discipline preference of the students and their convenience.
