About Bethune College

Bethune College is the first Women's college in the whole of the Asia continent that was established in 1879. The Bethune College is a government women's college, affiliated with the University of Calcutta. It is situated opposite the Azad Hind Bagh, in the heart of North Kolkata. This college offers courses in science and arts streams at both UG and PG levels. It has been reaccredited at the 'A' level by the NAAC in 2015 with recognition from the UGC. It got ranked 78th in the NIRF 2023 rankings.

Bethune College Kolkata Courses

Bethune college offers UG and PG departments in both Arts and Science faculties. 17 specializations are available at the UG Level and six specializations at PG Level. Courses details are given below.

Bethune College Kolkata Admission 2024

The 10+2 exam cut-off score is the criteria for admissions at the college. For B.A. in Bengali, 55% marks are required and for B.A. in English, 75% marks are required in 10+2 exam. For PG, UG in the relevant discipline will be prerequisite.

The Bethune college located at the prime Kolkata offers great opportunities for placements by forming and providing its own placement and career counselling to the candidates. It provides them with steady career and job opportunities and provides employment opportunities for UG and PG graduates through the recruitment drives making the various companies for placing the students according to their interests. As a matter of fact, big companies like TCS (Tata Consultancy Services) and Cognizant come every year to hire the appropriate employees and last year in 2019, four graduates were hired by the TCS from Bethune College.

Students Aid Fund- A great initiative taken by the Bethune college, that it provides financial aids to the less fortunate, with examinations and tuition fees, funded by the principals, teachers and the students. Merit- scholarships-These scholarships are granted to impactful and outstanding candidates who have achieved excellence in various academic endeavours.

The Bethune college offers various facilities and infrastructures for the candidate as follows:

Hostel- Good Hostel facility is being provided by the college for better and comfortable staying of the students.
Auditorium- A new college Auditorium was also established in 2019, which has increased the amount of extra-curricular activities throughout the college.
Library- Library of the college consists of approximately 1,02,000 books with old and new collections. And also, 1100 books are purchased every year for updating. The college has access to digital contents from INFLIBNET.

With 84 faculty members, the institute imparts in providing strong educational foundations and also seeks to achieve ethnic and value education for the future candidates. And also, the Alumni Association, Sammilani, an autonomous body works with the current teaching and non-teaching faculties for creating a better environment and opportunities in the college.
