About Indian Institute of Horticultural Research - [IIHR]

Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR), Bangalore is India’s first Horticultural Research Institute ever, established in 1967. This subsidiary institute of ICAR conducts research on various horticulture genres. IIHR Bangalore offers Ph.D. in Horticulture and its admission is done based on the merit score/ rank secured in an entrance examination followed by an interview. Currently, IIHR, Bangalore has a total number of 11 well-defined divisions and four sections. They have divisions for Fruit Crops, Post-Harvest Technology, Ornamental Crops, Plant Pathology, Vegetable Crops, Entomology and Nematology, Plant Physiology and Biochemistry, Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry, Biotechnology, Plant Genetic Resources, and Extension and Training and sections for Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Seed Science and Technology, Economics and Statistics, and Agricultural Engineering. It has more than 65 purpose-oriented laboratories having state-of-the-art equipment like the electron microscope, ultracentrifuge, LC, HPLC, GLC, counter, etc., and infrastructures like a series of Poly Houses and Net Houses, Mist Chambers, Growth Chambers, Gene Bank, Cold Storage Facilities, Local Area Network with Video Conferencing Facilities, Seed Processing, and Nursery Units, etc.
