Govt. TCL College was established in 1958 under Saraswati Teaching Committee and initially only consisted of art classes. The college was renamed as Janjgir, Government TCL Postgraduate College in memory of Barrister Thakur Chedilal Dhak Freedom Struggle Fighter, when he was under government in 1975. In the year 1983 Govt. TCL College came into existence as a law college. 

The college offers courses for graduate as well as post-graduate students as well as post-graduate degrees in 4 streams namely, Arts, Commerce, Science and Law. Govt. TCL College is affiliated to Atal Bihari Vajpayee Vishwavidhyalaya, Bislapur and offers 22 courses across 4 streams. The college is also recognised by UGC, Department of Higher education Chhattisgarh, RUSA and BCI.

Govt. T.C.L. College Admissions

The admission process for Govt. TCL College, Chhattisgarh is through both online and offline formats. The students are selected for the respective UG and PG courses they have applied for on the basis of Merit.

Govt. T.C.L. College Scholarships

As it is a government college, students get scholarships and all the facilities that are provided by the government. Students belonging to reserved classes like SC/ST get more scholarships to help finance their education. Students get the following scholarships under the three categories:

1. State Government Scholarship: The schemes under the state scholarship are Post Matric ST Scholarship, Post Matric SC Scholarship and Post Matric OBC Scholarship. The students who fall into the reserved category can register themselves online on the State Scholarship Portal 2.0 and apply for the scholarship.
2. Central government scholarship: The schemes under the central government scholarship are Post Matric Scholarships Scheme for Minorities, Post-matric Scholarship for Students with Disabilities, Scholarships for Top Class Education for students with disabilities, Top Class Education Scheme for SC Students, Financial Assistance for Education of the Wards of Beedi/Cine/IOMC/LSDM Workers - Post-Matric, Aam Aadmi Bima Yojna Scholarship for Andhra Pradesh are some of the scholarships that the central government provides that the students can apply for.
3. Corporate funded scholarship: Vidyasaarathi is a technology enabled initiative by NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure Limited (NSDL e-Gov) to bridge the gap in education finance in the country through an online platform. The initiative is supported by Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) as a central trust for administering and managing scholarships under Vidyasaarthi. This portal has schemes by JSW, TransUnion Cibil, Brainwonders and NSDL for students in need of a scholarship. The corporates have set up financial help for students in need of it. Students can apply online for the scholarship on the Vidyasaathi portal.

Govt. T.C.L College offers the following facilities for their staff and students on their campus.

• Library: The College has an excellent central library which possesses a wide collection of books and subscribes various journals to cater the academic needs of the students and faculties. The College library consists of a well-furnished library with about 80,000 books, and various journals for students to refer to for academic research.
• Sports: The college has a good track record in sports and many of the students have been selected in national and state level competitions. Coaching camps of Kabbadi, Kho-Kho, Hockey, Football, Volleyball, Cricket, are being organized for students. 
• Girl’s Hotel: The college provides the facility of a girl's hostel on campus. The hostel is well furnished and consists of all the amenities for lodging for female students in a safe environment.
• Canteen: The college has a canteen facility for students and staff within the college campus where they can get snacks, tea, coffee, cold drinks etc. during college hours. The college canteen is run by a private party on contract basis. There is a Canteen Committee in the college to monitor quality of eatables, hygiene and prices thereof.
• Auditorium: The college auditorium is well furnished and equipped for accommodating 250 guests at a time. The auditorium is utilized for various cultural activities for students like organizing seminars, conferences and workshops in the college throughout the session.
• Reading Room: The college has a well-furnished reading room for students which contains various business magazines, newspapers, books and journals to read. The reading room plays a vital role for the students’ overall development and make them aware about the latest trends to increase their knowledge about different world issues. This helps in grooming the students for the competition and corporate world that lies ahead post their academic years.
• Girls Common Room: The college has a separate girl’s common room which is well-furnished and has all the facilities which the female students can use during their leisure hours in college.
• Conference Hall: There is a well-furnished conference hall in the college where various academic and administrative meetings are held throughout the year for the faculty and the students.
• Cooler facility in all classrooms: The classrooms have cooler facilities during summers for the students to be in a comfortable environment during their classes.
